Steve Martin I envy you and your banjo

I'm totally worn out and ready to cry. So I decided to watch one of my favorite you-tube videos, Steve Martin playing bluegrass with Earl Scrubbs.

I have banjo envy! I wish I had learned to play bluegrass when I played the violin!

Take your passive aggression and snork it

So this has been the month from Hell. Absolute, nightmarish, HELL. This is because I am moving out of my apt early thanks to our evil new Landlords. I thought I wouldn't have to until about the 14th but they changed their mind two days ago. So I am attempting to be moved out by Sat. This wouldn't be so hard but I actually have no where to put all my crud.
Ah, don't you love the month before school! Panic in the air, people(me included) are ready to leave all their worldly possessions(Except my Simpson's DVD's) and become Buddhist monks.

The other reason this month has stunk is because I am wanting to deck people. To me there isn't a worse quality in this world then passive aggression. If you want to be nice, be nice, if you want to be mean, be a jerk. There is nothing more exhausting then people who are fake and insincere! It drives me nuts! I know I am way more blunt then I should be, and I am willing to admit that and work on it. What I don't like is someone pretending they are nice, and then gossiping and backstabbing."A true friend stabs you in the front!" Lets stop the high school drama already!

Evil landlords, lots students not knowing where to go

Well, I'm pretty sure there is a special spot in hell for evil landlords. The Owners of my apt. complex are on the list. After being informed that we(the students) would have to move out 2 weeks earlier than we have in the last 3 years, the landlords then told us if we truly had no where to go we could stay until we could get into our new place.
Today we got a different announcement. Every day that we stay we will be charged $75. Everyone is so mad there aren't words to express it. So renovation on the house has been moved to triple time. I now have to be able to find room and have it ready to be moved into by Sat. I know that many students will basically be homeless for those two weeks thanks to this policy. So to you landlords, I put a Jewish curse on you!

Squirrel Nut Zippers

No one knows who the "Squirrel Nut Zippers" are. Which is too bad because they are so talented!

Steve Martin and the Muppets on the Banjo

Nothing makes me happier than watching Steve Martin play the banjo, unless he is playing it on the "Muppet Show"

Steve Martin on the Banjo

Nothing makes me happier than watching Steve Martin play the banjo!

Good Morning Smiley Face

In the summer, a group of "retired folks" known as the "Sunbirds" come to visit Logan. I normally enjoy these people quite a bit except that they all have newspaper issues.
By newspaper issues I mean:
1. They are mad that the "New York Times" doesn't come at 7am to a small mountain town in Utah
2. They are mad because the papers have to stay in the library
3. Why don't we open before 7am?!
4. They could have all the information from their favorite papers online for free but dag nab it- it is the principal of the thing! They want their free papers and now!

The return of the FRESHMAN!!!! NOOOOOOOOOO!

Like the return of the Swallows to Capistrano, the freshman and flocking and returning to campus. DOOM DOOM DOOM!
Why do I feel such angst towards kids who were going to prom two months ago? Well, that question should answer itself. Some freshman are very sweet, endearing, and humble, these newbies are great!
What drives me nuts, and all librarians are the smug, barely 18 year-olds who still belong in high school. I just gave directions to a very annoyed future freshman, who obliviously had no idea where to go. Instead of listening to the directions she got annoyed and said "No". This happens a lot with the new students. I give them directions or help them to find a difficult book and they will tell us "No, you are wrong". Obviously they have no idea what they are doing, but they still have such an attitude that they have to disagree.
They are the "High School Musical" generation! Way more tough they the grunge rock,Nirvana, Smashing Pumpkins, Marylin Manson, Beastie Boys, Biggie Smalls generation, sheesh!
"Wait, who is Kirk Cobain?", "Who is Mr. T?", "What is a David Bowie? Was he in "Twilight"??"
Come on young grasshoppers! Face it, you are at the absolute bottom of life's totem pole now, and you need to accept it!
If someone helps you out, don't try teenage rebellion!

Baby Unibrow's Snappy New Outfit-What not to knit

Baby Unibrow’s Snappy New Outfit

By davidsdoll101

Don’t get me wrong, I love Thick And Quick, it’s my favorite cheap yarn. But there are things that you just shouldnt do with it. I like it for hats, it makes warm hats. Blankets, or big scarves, that’s what it’s for! But not for this, especially if you’re going to pair it with a floral print long sleeve shirt that doesn’t even remotely match.
Also, unibrow or no unibrow here? Is that a shadow or what? Discuss.

The Devil Bushes in the yard will DIE!!!!!!!

I am trying to kill the evil demon bushes that live in the front yard of the house I'm moving into. Hobo spiders like the nest there and this morning I decided to take nature into my own hands. I put paint stripper on the stumps and put the rest on the roots. HA HA HA! Try to live now evil plant that only grows thorns and Hobos! Along with other dangerous chemicals this should kill the bush nicely! If the plants survive, then this bush is certainly assisted by Satan. I'm pretty sure all the roots go all the way to Hell anyway!

Demon llamas

This llama was seriously giving me the stink eye. I really thought it was going to spit on me! I don't mind horses, goats, and cows, but I am not the biggest fan of llamas. I had neighbors who had them growing up. I wanted to hurl funeral potatos at them and yell, "Tina, come get your Freakin' dinner!"

Not only that, apparently when you take a picture of a llama you capture its soul, which is evil! So not one set of pictures came out without the llamas having glowing red eyes!
Coincidence? I think not!!!!!

Grouchy llamas, amazing food, beautiful view; at the Hare Krishna Temple in Spanish Fork, UT

I just spent a fabulous day with my friend/date Paul/Pauliwog at the Llama festival 2009 held at the Hare Krishna temple in Spanish Fork, UT. Soooo beautiful! Amazing food! Amazing music! Grouchy llamas!
I don't know how many of you know llamas, but they are buggers. They are moody and they spit a lot. I guess tonight I sort of got to see their softer side but I still don't trust them as far as I can throw them!
I can always count on Paul for a great cultural experience! Who else do I know that cooks with coconut milk!? It was so beautiful, the sky was stormy and the wind was blowing a very hot wind, so for a little while there, we really did feel like we were in India. My only regret is that I couldn't take more pictures because my camera battery died. I bought a beautiful shall, and one I had it on, I looked like I should be going home to Israel! Let me just say, you haven't had cream of Wheat until you have it with cinnamon and coconut milk!!!

There's no place like home.....

I am going home for the weekend. I really need an escape and I guess this will have to count as a vacation. I just wish I didn't have the long drive! In the words of the Beach Boys, "I feel so broke up, I wanna go home! Let me go home!". Its been almost 2 months since I've been back home.

Missing my grandma and grandpa soooo much.

I've been missing my grandma and grandpa soooooo much.
I've been looking at pictures from northern California where we are all from. This, unnamed bridge, my grandfather designed and was the engineer. I see it and miss him, but I love that he has given the world something so beautiful and did it just for the sake of doing it. I miss you grandma and grandpa!
This is such a beautiful picture, it does the landscape justice.

Way to protest Lady! You rock!

This goes out to the old lady flashing her butt for better health care, You Rock!!! http://www.pww.org/article/articleview/16260/

Mourning with those from the mudslide.

Is mourning today with those families that have lost family members in the Logan mudslide.
I feel so strange going back to parking for work in an area where a massive tragedy has occurred. I feel like I should leave something to tell these people I'm grieving with them. That beautiful view is so solemn, so cold now.
You are in my prayers! I truly hope that the families can find some peace. My heart is broken with you!

Missing my babies!

They aren't technically mine, but I still miss my nieces and nephews. To me they will always be my babies, and I will always adore them!

Library cell phone confessions, be careful people I can hear every word!

Ok, so I thought I should inform the general public at large, I have ears like a bat, I mean I can hear EVERYTHING! I think it is to make up for my terrible eyesight that I've had since I was a child. People, the library is large which means, it echoes! It means we can all hear your argument with your ex-boyfriend or your mom! So until people learn some cell phone manners, I will begin the to embarrass all those people who talk way too loudly on cell phones, hoping that people will learn some manners.
Inappropriate Library cell phone conversations Diary:

Today's episode features the ever too perky newly-wed.

Episode one: The perky-wed
Perky-wed, is a girl age 18-22, very perky and very very newly married. How can we tell? She makes dumb comments like "Every day is like a date with my husband." Bless her heart!
So during this conversation I heard an interesting thing that made me want to blog. Girls, I don't know how you were raised, but you DO NOT SEND WEDDING INVITATIONS OVER FACEBOOK!!! That isn't the worst part, it is soooooooo tacky to post a message on facebook saying if you want an invatation contact us! Come on people! Did you send out a mass wedding invite text as well? Sheesh! How lazy can we get! Maybe we should just text the ceremony to save the time and trouble of travel. Show a little class ladies!

I am woman, hear me roar!

Alrighty,
so the house is really coming along! We have discovered all the beautiful shelves and moldings are made of pine. That's right, I am restoring 50 year old pine! That is why I'm taking all this time and effort! If I have one more know-it-all guy tell me to just paint over it all with cheap white paint, I will kick them in the bo-jangles!!
Boys, I love you, but don't ever tell a woman what she can or can't handle!

Watch out, I am Wonder-Woman !

3 hours looking at rocks?

I've been really stressed and trying not to get depressed. After work I decided to look for some pretty rocks along what is basically a cliff top, for a zen garden. Pretty soon I had tons of rocks, 3 hours had passed, it was getting dark, and I had been just sitting and staring at Cache Valley from a hill top. It was soooooo relaxing. Not to mention that I found a fossil rock for my nieces and nephews!

I felt silly until I pulled out of the parking lot and saw another guy sitting on the hood of his car and staring at the view. Way to go man! Birds of a feather flock together!

Oh, and I did get amazing rocks for a Zen Garden. Ha! They were free! Eat my shorts Madonna and Richard Gere!!!!

Stupid Rolled up Newspapers

Ok, so every day in the library it is my job to catalog, organize, stamp and staple (Stample), all the newspapers that come to the University Library. We get really incredible newspapers in French, German, Korean, Chinese, Spanish, and one I haven't figured out yet...

So this is my gripe, every day a certain nameless paper "The Arizona Republic", wraps their paper in a brown paper into a cylinder. This thing is so tight I could use it to pour milk. I have to find a way to get it open, without tearing the paper, and then place it under massive staplers and books so that it won't roll back up again on the shelf! Which it does all the time and then tries to roll away.

Quote of the day, Song of the Day

No vacaton for two years makes me a schizophrenic.... and so am i

I need a vacation, BAD!!!!!!!! I realized it's been almost two years since I have taken a vacation from work and school! Anyone want to sponsor me? I will shamelessly promote the "Monterey Bay Aquarium" and anything or anyone on the Northern California coast if you send me to Monterey!

This is a pic actually right outside the cabin where my family has stayed in Pacific Grove for about 3 generations.
Send me back to the sea!!!!!!!! It's been too long since I've seen Big Sur!! Or Disneyland, I'm not picky.....

So long, and thanks for all the fish!

I am listening to "The Hitchhikers guide to the Galaxy" read by Stephen Fry, I forgot how funny this book is. It makes me want to watch the movie!

There is a full moon out...... Uh oh........

I should know better than to do ANY sort of life improvement, laundry & showering included, during a full moon! I don't know what it is but I think people go completely nuts!

If fish, wolves, squirrels, insects, and women are ruled by the phases of the moon, I would imagine that guys, you are too!

I'm been so frustrated by so many people's wacko behavior! I have to hope its the full moon and that they aren't insane! Moody guys, this means you!

Some progress? I'm in too much pain not to see some difference...

And the Lord said, let there be wood, and there was finally wood underneath the 20+ years of hardened paint and tape!

Aren't you lucky!

I spent all of 4th of July renovating so that I would have a nice place to move in to. I didn't realize how how this thing is going to take. But I'm not quitting!

I figure that stripping paint and sanding down everything is a small price to pay for not having to listen to my roommates speak baby-talk,

Removal of 20+ years of paint

I have to Strip this paint.(Gotcha Pervs)
This is what two days of paint stripper looks like on painted wood that had hardened for 20 years. Sheesh!!!!! Who would paint over wood moldings!

day 4-it is starting to look like there is real wood!!!

Finally it looks like there may be actual wood underneath all this cheap paint!

Sharing Washers and dryers-or trying not to smell like a guy's shoes

Okay, I don't know what some of these guys are washing in the laundry room! I think my clothes would come out cleaner and smelling better if I went to the river and beat them on rocks. My not- so-bad whites come out brown & I wonder what kind of laundry soap is being used, if any...... The next time I find someone's shoes in the washer I will freeze them in liquid nitrogen and throw them at a wall. It is too expensive to spend that much money on laundry and have all my clothes smelling worse then if I had used them to dry a wet dog!

Why am I working so hard to renovate this house? Because you can only wake up to guys downstairs playing guitar hero "Hotel California" every night for 6 months, at exactly 1 Am, for so long without going nuts.

day 2 renovation

Day 4 of Renovation

Well, this 4th of July I thought i would celebrate my independence as a free woman and get to work renovating. It is so empowering to do this work by myself. I am learning how to wire electricity, tile walls, Strip paint and stain would floors, cabinets, moldings, and doors. I have no idea what possessed the previous owners to paint over such beautiful woodwork.

This has been day 4 of stripping paint off various wooden cabinets, drawers, shelves, ect. I started out the day with " the Ramones" blasting on my ipod, (good thing the neibors are hard of hearing). I think it has taken me about 4 days to use paint stripper correctly. That stuff will burn your skin off!!!!!

So why do all this? For one thing I want to know how to repair a home or car on my own. Also I'm a really poor student librarian so I don't really have a choice. I would rather learn to help myself.

Home Renovation

I am about to move into my friends home. I am renovating the home so that I like where I live too. Plus it is fun! I am a starving student but if I can do all this without a guy, so can you! I have never felt so liberated and so confident! Eat your heart out Rosie the Riveter, this is all us!
